greetings everyone. we had a free day in assisi on saturday. after sleeping in, we walked to the top of the city to tour the castle/fortress. although a long hike, the view was well worth the effort. ever wonder how the italians stay so skinny (question mark) ... its because they walk and walk and walk. after the castle tour, we simply walked the streets of assisi. it was simply beautiful. we saw the stable in which st francis was born, we saw the area in which his father imprisoned him, we saw the baptismal font in which he and st clare were baptized, and we viewed his tomb. while on our walk, we also came across the chapel of st stephen - a very old and simple church.
much to our surprise, the restaurants do not open until 7 oclock. so, we went out for a wonderful dinner at an italian (surprise) restaurant. later, we went to an italian musical on the life of st clare. it was an awesome event but difficult to follow.
we then walked back to the religious house / hotel only to discover that we were locked out. tess was unwilling to climb over the 10 foot gate with pointed edges. see what happens, kids, when you stay out past curfew. when a car left, we were able to sneak back into the house.
it was an awesome day. it was really amazing to view the everyday life in assisi.
we're having a great time, we're seeing so much, and we're meeting some wonderful people from across the US. we miss you all so much and we're anxious to see everyone when we return on thursday.
we love you, kids. hope that you are doing well.
james - how was your first game (question mark) cant wait to hear about it.

That's hilarious! It happens to everyone who stays in such places. At least once :)
